Why do you teach virtually?
There are many advantages to virtual tutoring including providing less disturbance to families’ busy schedules, and being able to fit more easily into time slots that would be otherwise unavailable. In addition, where additional sessions might be required, those can easily be arranged on an as needed basis too. Lastly, the beauty of teaching online gives Learner’s Leap the opportunity to work with students and adults from all areas of Massachusetts, the US, and beyond, not just a certain proximity around our home base. Not all classrooms have four walls.
Do you tutor at client’s homes too?
Learner’s Leap originally tutored at local client’s homes and public libraries, however, shifted to virtual sessions during the 2020 pandemic.
What equipment do I need for my child?
You’ve probably already got everything you need for us to get started. Learner’s Leap works over Zoom, which is free to install. You can also download the app for free on any device. Some students prefer to use headphones or earbuds or the speakers in their laptop to help minimize distractions and increase focus and productivity. To speak, it’s possible to use an inbuilt mic, or the one that’s incorporated into their headphones or earbuds. If your PC/laptop/tablet or Mac doesn’t have a video camera it’s possible to purchase and install an inexpensive one.
Depending upon the subject tutored, other helpful recommended tools may include a basic calculator, ruler, pencils, highlighters (at least 3 colors), color pencils (at least 10), and scrap paper. It’s not essential, however, and if required we can suggest some inexpensive items which will be quite suitable. Learner’s Leap can help you to check your setup during your complimentary initial meeting.
What subjects do you tutor?
At this time, Learner’s Leap tutors students grades 3-8 in math (my favorite subject), reading comprehension, written expression, executive function, study skills, organization, note taking strategies, self-advocacy, short/long term planning, homework help, creative workshops, support for parents, IEP goal and benchmark support, and more!
Do you tutor during school vacations and summer?
Yes! There have been many research studies which have shown that learners of all ages suffer learning loss during extended breaks. With this in mind, Learner’s Leap aims to continue supporting learners during school vacations and throughout the summer months.
What ages do you tutor?
Depending upon the nature of the tutoring required, Learner’s Leap typically tutors from age 7 through up to age 14 (end of middle school/8th grade).
